Job Summary

Provides maintenance for parish/school buildings and grounds including semi-skilled carpentry, simple plumbing and electrical work, painting and other minor repair work.  Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems.  Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and performs required maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, and filter changes.  Grounds work may include mowing, pruning and ice & snow removal with grounds equipment.

Job Responsibilities

•    Cleans church and other parish or school buildings. Mops and vacuums floors, cleans bathrooms, washes windows and performs other cleaning activities as directed
•    Maintains grounds: mows, waters and edges lawns; performs snow removal with hand shovels, blows walkways, weeds, prunes and rakes as directed on a seasonal basis
•    Performs minor maintenance of the rectory, church, school and/or other church buildings  
•    Provides other general assistance as needed through set-up of tables and chairs in facilities, as requested 
•    Hauling and moving items and picking up parts or other equipment as requested by staff
•    Collects and disposes of trash and garbage
•    Reports cleaning and grounds maintenance inventory needs to supervisor
•    Maintains an inventory of supplies for lighting and cleaning and orders supplies as requested
 

Job Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Requirements 


•    Knowledge of and experience with light carpentry work required
•    Knowledge of and experience with minor building repairs
•    Some janitorial experience preferred
•    Knowledge and use of industrial strength cleaning chemicals

Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job 


•    General knowledge and support of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites and liturgies
•    Must have necessary mechanical skills and the ability to work safely with machinery and equipment requiring considerable caution
•    Must have ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision and be self-motivated
•    Must have good interpersonal communication skills
•    Must be able to maintain confidentiality
•    Ability to tolerate varying temperatures and climate changes
•    Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and stand for long periods
•    Willingness to work a flexible schedule with possible evening and/or weekend hours
•    On-call availability for emergencies

 

Relationships Requirements
Must be able to work with Maintenance Supervisor, the Pastor, other maintenance staff, and other parish employees
