Working collaboratively with individuals, businesses, government and other service providers, St. Patrick Center will end chronic homelessness in the St. Louis region through Housing First, an evidence-based practice that tells us to remove barriers, do intake and assessment early, move people into housing and offer them support to achieve their goals.

 

 

Job Summary

St. Patrick Center, a ministry of Catholic Charities, is hiring an Engagement Specialist to work at our off-site 24/7 shelter, Safe Haven. The engagement specialist will observe and evaluate the traffic at the shelter location. The specialist will notify appropriate St. Patrick Center staff of disturbances at the Safe Haven and will work to ensure the safety of the individuals entering the shelter and fellow staff members overnight. This is a full time position working 11 pm - 7 am Monday through Friday and weekends. The hourly range is $15 to $20 per hour. This is a temporary position funded until March 2025.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct individuals to appropriate entrances such as volunteers, visitors and persons seeking services.
  • Ability to work varying shifts.
  • Complete security rounds both inside and outside of the safe haven to monitor the safety and cleanliness of the area.
  • Engage clients in conversation to determine needs; provide appropriate resources.
  • Inform persons in need of food, shelter, medical, and hygiene assistance of the location of resources.
  • Engage clients in conversations regarding substance use and mental health.
  • Work closely with area service agencies to ensure service delivery.
  • Refer clients to appropriate community agencies and shelter providers as needed.
  • Use appropriate de-escalation techniques to defuse volatile persons.
  • Use appropriate judgement to call “911” for emergency assistance.
  • Providing a welcome presence to persons seeking services
  • Record and maintain services provided and notes for on-going clients in CaseWorthy and Service Point
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Maintain clean and professional appearance.
  • Complete agency Incident Reports as needed.
  • Ability to remain awake during shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to interface with diverse population.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Pre-Employment Screening
