PSR Teacher

Job Summary

The PSR Teacher is responsible for providing religious instruction and faith formation to students enrolled in the Parish School of Religion program. This role involves teaching the core beliefs, traditions, and practices of the Catholic Church, guiding students in their spiritual development, and helping prepare them for the reception of sacraments such as First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach scheduled religious education classes using the parish-approved curriculum.

  • Plan, organize, and implement engaging lessons appropriate to the age and development of students.

  • Prepare students to receive sacraments through instruction, prayer, and activities.

  • Foster a safe, respectful, and faith-filled learning environment.

  • Encourage regular attendance at Mass and participation in parish life.

  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and classroom activities.

  • Maintain classroom discipline in a positive and respectful manner.

  • Participate in required catechist training and formation offered by the parish or diocese.

  • Attend PSR meetings, sacramental preparation sessions, and special events as needed.

  • Uphold and model Catholic values and teachings in word and action.

Job Requirements

  • racticing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

  • Willingness to share and witness to the Catholic faith.

  • Ability to work with children or teens in an educational or pastoral setting.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Completion of diocesan Safe Environment training and background check (required).

  • Prior teaching or catechetical experience (preferred, but not required).

  • Commitment to ongoing catechist formation and spiritual growth.
