Job Summary
The PSR Teacher is responsible for sharing the Catholic faith with elementary-aged children in a parish-based religious education setting. The teacher leads weekly sessions, helps prepare students for sacraments (such as First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion), and works closely with the parish staff and families to foster spiritual development and understanding of Catholic doctrine.
Job Responsibilities
Faith Formation & Teaching:

Plan and teach weekly religious education lessons aligned with diocesan guidelines and parish curriculum.

Incorporate Scripture, prayer, and Church teachings into age-appropriate instruction.

Prepare students for sacraments, especially First Reconciliation and First Eucharist (2nd grade level).

Use engaging methods, including crafts, music, stories, and group discussions, to make lessons meaningful.
Student & Family Engagement:

Communicate regularly with parents about student progress, class updates, and upcoming sacramental events.

Encourage family involvement in the faith formation process.

Support a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment rooted in Gospel values.
Administrative & Liturgical Duties:

Take attendance and keep basic student records.

Attend catechist meetings, trainings, and parish events as required.

Assist in organizing and participating in prayer services, Masses, and other liturgical events.
Job Requirements

Practicing Catholic with knowledge of and commitment to Church teachings.

Experience working with children in an educational or parish setting preferred.

Strong communication and classroom management skills.

Willingness to complete required diocesan training (e.g., Protecting God’s Children/Virtus).

Catechist certification or willingness to complete diocesan formation program.
