Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher carries out instructional plans left by the regular classroom teacher and provides a safe, respectful, and faith-filled environment that promotes student learning and growth. In a Catholic school setting, the substitute teacher is expected to support and model the values and mission of the Catholic Church in both word and action.
Job Responsibilities

Implement lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher.

Manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive, respectful, and orderly learning environment.

Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, playground, or other areas as assigned.

Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

Leave clear notes and feedback for the regular teacher, including any completed assignments, behavioral issues, or concerns.

Follow school policies and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school matters.

Support and respect the teachings of the Catholic faith; model Christian values and behavior.
Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education or a related field preferred.

Teaching certification or substitute teaching license preferred (may vary by diocese/state).

Prior experience working with children or in a classroom setting is a plus.

Ability to manage a classroom effectively and follow prepared lesson plans.

Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Must pass background check and complete diocesan Safe Environment training (e.g., VIRTUS or equivalent).

Practicing Catholic preferred; non-Catholics must be respectful of the Catholic mission and teachings.
