Job Summary

The Director of the Parish Children’s Choir leads, trains, and spiritually forms young singers at St. Joseph Parish. This role oversees all aspects of the choir’s musical and liturgical life—recruiting members, conducting rehearsals and liturgies, selecting repertoire, and fostering a joyful, faith-filled environment that aligns with Catholic worship and parish mission.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit and welcome new members from the parish, school, PSR, and 
    homeschool communities.
  • Oversee participation for Pre-K through Grade 8 students, forming ageappropriate choir groups as needed.
  • Provide engaging vocal, musical, and liturgical formation for children.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
  • Plan and lead weekly rehearsals (currently Tuesdays, 4:15 to 5:00 PM) and one monthly Mass (typically the 10:30 Mass on the first Sunday of the month).
  • Participate in special liturgies, concerts, or parish events as availability, interest, and ability allow.
  • Select sacred music appropriate for children’s voices and Catholic liturgy.
  • Maintain rehearsal and performance calendars, music libraries, and choir rosters.
  • Ensure compliance with all Archdiocesan Safe Environment policies.
  • Collaborate with parish musicians, accompanists, and volunteers.
  • Promote the choir through parish communications and foster community among members.
  • Support the parish’s overall liturgical and musical vision through musical excellence and active participation in worship.
  • Work under the direction and guidance of the Director of Liturgy and Music to support the overall parish worship program.
  • Estimated annual schedule: 10 Masses (monthly September through May plus Christmas Eve); 36 rehearsals (weekly August through April)

Job Requirements

  • Able to lead and train children in singing while creating a positive, faith-filled environment

  • Able to plan music, run rehearsals, and guide the choir during Masses and parish events

  • Able to communicate clearly with parents and keep schedules, rosters, and music materials organized

  • Able to work well with parish staff, musicians, and volunteers while following all Safe Environment policies
