Job Summary

The Director of Faith Formation is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the religious education program for children and youth within the parish. This role involves developing and implementing a curriculum that aligns with Catholic teachings, coordinating sacramental preparation, recruiting and training volunteer catechists, and fostering a vibrant faith community among families. This role works closely with the pastor, parish staff, and parents to nurture the spiritual development of the parish's young members. 

Job Responsibilities

Program Development and Management: 

  • Design and implement a comprehensive religious education program for children and youth, including curriculum selection, lesson planning, and assessment.
  • Coordinate sacramental preparation programs, including First Communion, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation.
  • Ensure that all educational materials and activities align with Catholic doctrine and the parish’s mission. 

Volunteer Recruitment and Training: 

  • Recruit, train, and support catechists and aides to deliver the religious education program.
  • Provide ongoing formation and professional development opportunities for catechists. 

Parental and Community Engagement: 

  • Foster a strong relationship with parents and guardians, providing them with resources and support to nurture their children's faith at home.
  • Organize family faith formation events, retreats, and workshops to engage the wider parish community.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, catechists, and the parish community about the PSR program through newsletters, meetings, and digital platforms. 

Administrative Duties: 

  • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and sacramental preparation.
  • Develop and manage the PSR budget, ensuring the effective allocation of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, including child protection and safe environment requirements.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of classes, sacramental preparation sessions, and special events. 

Collaboration and Leadership: 

  • Work closely with the pastor, parish staff, and other ministry leaders to integrate religious education into the broader life of the parish.
  • Participate in parish staff meetings, liturgies, and other events as needed.
  • Stay informed about current trends in religious education and integrate best practices into the PSR program. 

Job Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a strong understanding of Catholic theology and traditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of experience in religious education, catechesis, or a related ministry.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with parish staff, volunteers, and families.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and resources for communication and program management.
  • Commitment to fostering a safe and nurturing environment for children and youth.
  • Desire to share their faith with the youth of our parish 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to move around the parish campus, including navigating stairs and lifting materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required by the program schedule. 

Compensation: 

  • Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
