Job Summary
The Ensemble Director supports the liturgical and musical life of St. Joseph Catholic Church by directing, coordinating, and preparing a designated musical ensemble for weekend Masses, parish liturgies, and special events. This position ensures that music offered in worship is prayerful, excellent, and aligned with the liturgical norms and mission of the Catholic Church. The Ensemble Director fosters a collaborative and faith-filled environment that encourages musical growth and active participation among ensemble members.
Job Responsibilities
Liturgical & Musical Leadership

Direct and lead the assigned ensemble at scheduled weekend Masses, Holy Days, and other parish liturgies or events as requested.

Select appropriate liturgical music in coordination with the Director of Music/Director of Liturgy and in accordance with the liturgical calendar, parish guidelines, and Catholic tradition.

Lead rehearsals that prepare the ensemble musically and spiritually for upcoming liturgies.

Ensure all musical offerings enhance the prayerful environment of the Mass.
Administrative & Coordination Duties

Communicate regularly with ensemble members regarding schedules, rehearsals, musical selections, and expectations.

Maintain accurate rosters and attendance for rehearsals and liturgies.

Submit music selections, planning forms, and other required information to the parish music office by established deadlines.

Coordinate with parish staff, accompanists, cantors, and other directors as needed for smooth liturgical preparation.
Pastoral Responsibilities

Foster a welcoming, positive, and faith-centered environment for all ensemble members.

Support the spiritual mission of St. Joseph Catholic Church through leadership that reflects Christian values and respect for Catholic liturgical norms.

Encourage musical and spiritual growth within the ensemble.
Other Duties

Participate in parish music program meetings, workshops, or training sessions when needed.

Assist with parish-wide liturgical events (e.g., Triduum, Christmas, Confirmation, Parish missions) as requested.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Music or Pastor.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
-
Experience directing a choir, ensemble, or musical group in a liturgical or performance setting required.

Musical proficiency in vocal/choral techniques and ability to lead rehearsals effectively.

Familiarity with Roman Catholic liturgy and sacred music traditions preferred.
Skills & Competencies

Strong leadership and communication skills.

Ability to read music and teach vocal parts confidently.

Comfortable working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and musicians of varying skill levels.

Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
