Job Summary
The 5th Grade Homeroom and 5th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for creating a Christ-centered, academically rigorous, and supportive classroom environment that nurtures the spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional development of all students. This teacher will serve as the primary homeroom educator for 5th grade and will deliver high-quality ELA instruction aligned with school expectations, state standards, and the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools (NSBECS). The ideal candidate integrates Catholic values into all aspects of teaching and models the mission and vision of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Dardenne.
Job Responsibilities
Faith Formation and Integration
- Model and promote Catholic values, virtues, and attitudes in all interactions with students and the school community.
- Integrate faith-based principles naturally into classroom instruction and daily routines.
- Foster a classroom culture rooted in respect, compassion, and Catholic social teaching.
- Participate actively in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and religious celebrations.
Instructional Excellence: Homeroom & ELA
- Develop and implement engaging 5th grade ELA lessons aligned with curriculum requirements, state standards, and NSBECS.
- Teach core ELA skills—including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking/listening—using research-based instructional strategies.
- Create and maintain a structured, organized, and positive homeroom environment that supports student well-being and success.
- Use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support individual student growth.
- Integrate technology purposefully to enhance instruction and reinforce literacy skills.
- Encourage a love of reading, strong writing habits, critical thinking, creativity, and academic curiosity.
Student Development and Support
- Support students’ spiritual, academic, and social-emotional development through intentional classroom practices.
- Maintain high expectations for behavior, academic performance, and personal responsibility.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate student records and provide timely feedback.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic performance, behavior, and classroom expectations.
Community Engagement
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
- Participate in schoolwide activities, events, and service opportunities that support community building and Catholic identity.
- Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Valid teaching credential or certification in elementary education appropriate for the role.

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

Strong understanding of Catholic teachings and commitment to faith-based education.

Classroom teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic school environment.

Excellent communication, classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning tools.
