Job Summary

The Recess Monitor is responsible for supervising students during recess to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment aligned with Catholic values. The monitor supports student well-being by encouraging positive play, conflict resolution, and kindness among all children during outdoor and indoor recess periods.

Job Responsibilities

Supervision & Safety:

  • Actively supervise students during outdoor and indoor recess, maintaining a visible and engaged presence.

  • Ensure students play safely and follow school rules; intervene appropriately in cases of unsafe behavior.

  • Monitor play areas for hazards or safety concerns and report issues to school administration promptly.

  • Provide basic first aid if necessary and report injuries or incidents according to school policy.

Behavior & Conflict Management:

  • Promote and model respectful, inclusive, and cooperative behavior among students.

  • Use positive behavior management strategies consistent with the values and expectations of the Catholic school.

  • Support students in resolving minor conflicts and encourage peaceful problem-solving.

Job Requirements

  • Experience working with children in a school, camp, or child care setting preferred.

  • Practicing Catholic preferred; must support the Catholic mission and values of the school.

  • Ability to remain alert and responsive in an outdoor setting.

  • Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to enforce rules and resolve minor conflicts respectfully and consistently.
