Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the classroom teacher during their absence. This includes following lesson plans, managing student behavior, and ensuring a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to fostering student growth within the values and expectations of the school community.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement lesson plans and teaching materials provided by the classroom teacher.

  • Instruct students in a manner consistent with school and classroom procedures.

  • Maintain classroom management and discipline in accordance with school policies.

  • Take attendance and submit necessary reports.

  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all students.

  • Provide feedback to the regular teacher on student behavior, progress, and any issues that occurred.

  • Supervise students in the classroom and during transitions such as lunch or recess, if required.

  • Uphold the mission and values of the school, including respect for the faith-based environment (if in a Catholic or religious school).

Job Requirements

  • Valid substitute teaching permit or teaching certification (as required by state law).

  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.

  • Strong classroom management skills.

  • Professional demeanor and good communication skills.

  • Willingness to support and respect the mission of the school (including Catholic values, if applicable).
