Job Summary

The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a kitchen facility, ensuring that all food is prepared, stored, and served in a safe, sanitary, and timely manner. This role involves supervising kitchen staff, maintaining inventory, adhering to nutritional and safety guidelines, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. The Kitchen Supervisor plays a key role in providing well-balanced meals in a clean and organized environment that supports the health and well-being of all individuals served.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, service, and clean-up.

  • Ensure all meals and snacks meet nutritional guidelines and any applicable dietary restrictions or program requirements (e.g., USDA, CACFP).

  • Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.

  • Monitor inventory and order food, supplies, and equipment as needed to ensure uninterrupted meal service.

  • Maintain accurate records of food usage, temperature logs, and compliance documentation.

  • Enforce cleanliness and sanitation standards in all kitchen and food storage areas.

  • Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and functioning safely.

  • Assist in menu planning in coordination with dietary or program guidelines.

  • Respond promptly to any food allergies or dietary needs, ensuring all precautions are followed.

  • Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and administration regarding kitchen needs or issues.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe) required or must be obtained upon hire.

  • Previous experience in food service or kitchen supervision, preferably in a school, child care, or institutional setting.

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and procedures.

  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage time effectively and maintain a clean and efficient kitchen environment.

  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
