Job Summary

The PSR Teacher is responsible for providing religious education and faith formation to students (typically grades K–8) enrolled in the Parish School of Religion program. The teacher will guide students in deepening their understanding of the Catholic faith, preparing for sacraments, and living out Christian values in daily life.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach weekly religious education lessons following the approved curriculum and calendar.

  • Provide instruction aligned with Catholic teachings, including Scripture, sacraments, liturgy, prayer, and moral development.

  • Create a welcoming, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that promotes learning and spiritual growth.

  • Maintain accurate attendance and records for each student.

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and upcoming events.

  • Assist with sacramental preparation (e.g., First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation), as needed.

  • Participate in PSR teacher meetings, training sessions, and retreats.

  • Set an example of Christian living through faith, prayer, and participation in parish life.

Job Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to Catholic teachings and values.

  • Experience working with children or teens in an educational or faith-based setting (preferred but not always required).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to create lesson plans and manage a classroom effectively.

  • Must complete diocesan-required training, including Safe Environment and background check.
