Job Summary
St Peter Catholic Church, St Charles is seeking a faith-filled and musically gifted Cantor to lead the sung prayer of the assembly during Mass and other liturgical celebrations. The cantor plays a vital role in enhancing the prayerful experience of the liturgy by proclaiming the Responsorial Psalm, leading hymns, and encouraging full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgical music of the Church.
Job Responsibilities

Lead the congregation in sung prayer during Masses, including Responsorial Psalms, Gospel Acclamations, hymns, and service music.

Rehearse and prepare music in advance, including attending scheduled rehearsals as needed.

Collaborate with the Director of Music, accompanists, and clergy in selecting and preparing appropriate liturgical music.

Proclaim the Responsorial Psalm with clarity, reverence, and musical expression.

Support the assembly’s participation by providing clear musical leadership, especially during unfamiliar or new music.

Serve as cantor for special liturgies such as holy days, funerals, weddings, and parish events as available.

Arrive punctually and be spiritually and musically prepared for all liturgies.

Maintain a professional and prayerful demeanor in the sanctuary and during worship.
Job Requirements

Practicing Catholic with a strong commitment to the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church

Pleasant, confident singing voice with good pitch, diction, and musical sensitivity

Ability to lead congregational singing clearly and reverently

Willingness to learn and follow liturgical norms and directives of the parish and Church

Completion of Safe Environment Training and background check (per diocesan requirements)
