Job Summary
The Coordinator of the Parish School of Religion is responsible for the overall leadership, organization, and administration of the parish’s religious education program for children and youth who attend public or private schools. The Coordinator works to ensure a strong Catholic formation, sacramental preparation, and faith development consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the pastoral vision of the parish.
Job Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Administration

Develop, implement, and evaluate the Parish School of Religion curriculum in alignment with diocesan guidelines and Catholic doctrine.

Recruit, train, and support catechists, volunteers, and aides to effectively deliver religious education.

Schedule classes, coordinate classroom assignments, and manage registration and attendance records.

Prepare and manage the PSR program budget, including materials and resources purchasing.

Maintain accurate records of sacramental preparation (First Communion, Confirmation) and liaise with parents and parish sacramental teams.
Faith Formation & Pastoral Care

Provide catechetical leadership that fosters spiritual growth for children, youth, families, and catechists.

Organize and coordinate sacramental preparation programs in collaboration with the parish clergy and families.

Plan and facilitate retreats, prayer services, and family faith formation events.

Communicate regularly with families regarding program updates, schedules, and faith formation opportunities.
Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with the Pastor, Director of Religious Education, school administrators, and parish staff.

Serve as a liaison between the parish, diocese, and other faith formation entities.

Promote the PSR program through parish bulletins, social media, and community outreach.
Job Requirements

Experience in Catholic catechesis, religious education, or youth ministry.

Strong knowledge of Catholic teachings, sacraments, and liturgical calendar.

Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work with children, youth, and adults of diverse backgrounds.

Proficient with Microsoft Office and database management software.

Must complete diocesan Safe Environment training (e.g., VIRTUS) and background check.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
