Job Summary

St Charles Borromeo and St Peter Parish in St Charles’ Director of Religious Education (DRE), reporting to the pastor, works in conjunction with the parish and administration to provide comprehensive evangelization efforts for the parish through the Parish School of Religion (PSR) and seeks to bring the fullness of the Gospel to its members and community, collaborating with the Holy Spirit, to foster faith in Jesus Christ. This is a catechetical, spiritual and administrative position. This is a full-time, year-round position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation and ongoing assessment of a comprehensive religious education curriculum for children in the PSR program.
  • Direct the preparation and celebration of sacraments with PSR children.
  • Assist and involve parents in developing the faith and sacramental life of their children.
  • Provide guidance and incorporate home-schooled children into parish sacramental celebrations.
  • Recruit, select, develop, train, supervise and evaluate catechists for the PSR.
  • Facilitate the spiritual and professional growth of catechists; serve as a resource to catechists.
  • Coordinate booking and ordering of materials for PSR classes and events.
  • Ensure all catechists and volunteers have completed tax forms & are in compliance with Safe Environment protocols.
  • Coordinate Parent & Family Formation Events.
  • Prepare and direct liturgies and other worship events for PSR families.
  • Communicate with parents on behalf of PSR and other parish events.
  • Teach Safe Touch and maintain archdiocesan compliance.
  • Ensure archdiocesan compliance of Emergency Drills for the Parish School of Religion.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and ministry formation to remain up to date on matters of theology, catechesis, and best practice.
  • Parent point of contact for PSR concerns, needs, and questions.
  • Discuss and determine financial assistance for families in coordination with the Business Manager.
  • Plan and host parent sacramental meetings and formation events.
  • Create program calendar in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines.
  • Assess curriculum and program needs annually.
  • Assist with development of PSR budget.
  • Conduct PSR Enrollment, collect tuition/fees and administer scholarships.

Job Requirements

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the PSR religious education program, including curriculum, sacraments, and annual program needs.
  • Support families by communicating regularly, coordinating parent events, and serving as the main contact for questions or concerns.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise catechists and volunteers while ensuring all Safe Environment and archdiocesan requirements are met.
  • Manage program logistics such as materials, scheduling, enrollment, tuition, scholarships, and budget support.
