Job Summary

The Accompaniment Program is a way to walk with immigrants and show support and solidarity as they go through their immigration process. The purpose of Accompaniment is not to speak for the immigrant, but to be there to observe the interaction with the Immigration Official and to assist if needed. The Accompaniment Coordinator is a 20-hour/week position that will report to the Immigration & Refugee Ministry Coordinator. The Accompaniment Coordinator will manage the Accompaniment Program by organizing and training volunteer teams to attend government appointments (i.e. ISAP 1 , ICE 2 ) with immigrants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Management
    • Assist with onboarding:
      • Assist volunteers through the application process
      • Setup interview with the coordinator
      • Ensure volunteers complete Prevent and Protect trainings and background check
    • Scheduling volunteers:
      • For accompaniment appointments
      • Special Events
    • Create a database for volunteers
  • Facilitate quarterly trainings to recruit new volunteers for accompaniment
  • Manage community requests for accompaniment
  • Organize and track all ISAP, ICE, and USCIS 3 appointments
  • Coordinate accompaniment teams (including an interpreter, note taker, driver (as needed) and clergy) to accompany each immigrant to an appointment
  • Communicate with immigrant to ensure they have the necessary information
  • Participate in Immigrant Service Providers Network (ISPN) meetings to create relationships with other organizations
  • Make referrals to assist immigrants as needed

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Committed to living Catholic social teaching, especially regarding immigrants and refugees
  • Good written and spoken communication
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Organized and ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Preferred, Experience Related to the following:

  • Involvement with immigrants or exchange students or travel abroad
  • Training, public speaking, presentations to a group
  • Organizing an event, a project or a trip
