POSITION SUMMARY:
A Sign Language Interpreter is responsible for facilitating interpretation sessions in a professional, focused manner and utilizing the necessary resources to provide accurate and complete interpretation. Interpreters must possess and maintain a high level of skill, proficiency, and professionalism in interpreting. Due to the sensitive nature of the information processed during an interpretation session, a high degree of integrity and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide interpreting services for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing customers in a variety of settings at local, on-site locations
- Demonstrate fluent, idiomatic Sign Language in a variety of modes and registers, including but not limited to visual ASL, PSE, CASE, SEE, tactile sign, pro-tactile sign
- Demonstrate fluent, idiomatic spoken English skills in a variety of registers
- Ability to collaborate in a professional manner with team
- Work effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate full compliance with LAMP standards and policies, and the Code of Ethics
- Maintain professional standards by attending continuing education trainings to maintain the highest standards for delivery of service.
- Dress appropriately and professionally in accordance with the assignment
- Treat all with whom you interact with respect and compassion
- Willing to compete screening including: TB test, drug test, and FBI background check
- Willing to provide complete Immunization Records
- Possess reliable transportation
- Submit electronic timesheets within 24 hours of appointment.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Formal interpreter training (ITP)
- Deep understanding of Deaf culture
- Experience in relevant areas other than interpretation (e.g. healthcare, legal) is a plus
- Experience with DeafBlind (tactile, low vision, protactile) persons a plus
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- RID or BEI Certified with the state of Missouri and/or Illinois
- Licensed to interpret with MCDHH/SCI or Missouri and/or IDHHC of Illinois
- Eligibility to work for any U.S. employer
Pre-Employment Screening
All candidates receiving an employment offer must submit a pre-employment screening. The screenings will include criminal background check and other background checks (as needed), Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, an employment and education or licensure/certification verification, and Covid-19 and Influenza vaccination. Various positions will require physical examination, Tuberculosis screening and Hepatitis A. All offers are contingent upon successful completion of required screening.
