The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area.  Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

Immacolata seeks cantors and quarter members to supplements Sunday morning worship at both the 9:30 and 11:30 Masses. Singers will rotate through a schedule of sometimes solo cantoring and sometimes singing as part of a quartet. Music is sent in advance, and a brief practice takes place 1/2 hour before the services start. Stipend is $80 per service. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead congregational singing at weekend Masses, holy days, weddings, funerals, and other liturgical celebrations as assigned.

  • Proclaim the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation with clarity, reverence, and musical skill.

  • Provide vocal leadership individually as a cantor or collaboratively as part of a vocal quartet or small ensemble.

  • Sing ensemble pieces with strong blend, harmony, tone, and balance.

  • Work closely with fellow singers and follow the direction of the Music Director.

  • Attend rehearsals and prepare assigned music in advance of each liturgy.

  • Collaborate with the Music Director and clergy in the selection of liturgical music appropriate to the season and readings.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the liturgy and the role of the liturgical musician as a minister of sung prayer.

  • Encourage active participation from the assembly through confident and prayerful leadership.

  • Participate in ongoing musical and liturgical formation.

  • Model Christian values and professionalism in demeanor, dress, communication, and reliability.

Job Requirements

  • Strong vocal ability with clear diction, intonation, and expression suited to liturgical music.

  • Ability to sing both solo and ensemble music with good blend and musicality.

  • Basic music-reading skills and familiarity with Catholic liturgical repertoire.

  • Understanding of the Mass and the liturgical year.

  • Reliable, punctual, prayerful, and committed to serving the worshiping community.

  • Prior experience in cantoring or liturgical singing preferred.
