Job Summary

St. Gerard Majella is seeking a faith-filled and experienced Coordinator of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) to lead and oversee its CGS program. This individual will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of CGS catechesis for children, ensuring the integrity of the Montessori-based approach, supporting trained catechists, and maintaining a sacred and developmentally appropriate environment for the spiritual formation of children in accordance with Catholic teaching and the mission of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Oversight

  • Coordinate and implement CGS for children (typically ages 3–12) in accordance with national and diocesan guidelines.

  • Develop and maintain the atrium environment, ensuring materials are properly prepared, maintained, and reflect the liturgical calendar.

  • Create and manage program schedules, student enrollment, and session logistics.

Catechist Support & Collaboration

  • Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and scheduling for CGS-trained catechists and assistants.

  • Organize catechist meetings and formation opportunities.

  • Collaborate with school and parish leadership to integrate CGS into the broader faith formation program.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s faith journey and the principles of CGS.

  • Provide information sessions or parent education on the CGS approach and its spiritual impact.

  • Encourage and support family involvement in parish and school liturgical life.

Faith & Mission

  • Model a deep love for Christ and commitment to Catholic teaching.

  • Foster an atmosphere of reverence, prayer, and contemplation in the atrium.

  • Support the mission and values of St. Gerard Majella Parish and the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Requirements

  • Certification in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Level I required; Level II and III preferred)

  • Prior experience working in an atrium and/or coordinating CGS programs

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with parish and school staff, volunteers, and families

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing, committed to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Education, or related field (preferred)
