Job Summary

We believe that Religious Education and Faith Formation is a lifelong process. The primary responsibility of the Director of Religious Education (DRE) is to implement the parish catechetical program in addition to research, identify and recommend new Religious Education and Faith Formation activities/programs for our parish. These activities/programs will be offered to all our parishioners, preschool through adults.

The DRE is a full-time position and works in collaboration with the pastor, other staff members, the Christian Formation Commission, and the Parish Council. This position reports to the pastor.

The DRE plays a key role in fostering spiritual growth and lifelong faith development within the parish community. This position requires a passionate commitment to Catholic education and a desire to guide others in deepening their relationship with Christ.

Job Responsibilities

Parish School of Religion & High School Staff: Duties & Responsibilities:

· Organize, schedule & oversee religious education program for pre-school through 8th grade.

· Prepare & schedule sacramental programs and worship services for students and parents.

· Order textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program.

· Prepare an annual budget for the Parish Council.

· Prepare and submit a yearly calendar and/or updates to the Pastor and Parish Council

· Attend monthly Parish Council meetings.

· Support and endorse diocesan and Parish Council policies.

· Revise Religious Education and Catechist textbooks as needed.

· Manage the Vacation Bible School; recruit volunteers and assist leaders

· Supervise the position of Youth Minister

 

Collaborations

· Identify and provide training for catechists at each grade level.

· Foster relationships with students, parents & teachers.

· Work with the Youth Minister on creative ways to grow the High School Youth Group ministry.

· Explore opportunities for developing a middle school ministry to continue relationships through high school.

 

Adult Faith Formation and Evangelization:

· Work with Parish Council Commissions and committees to coordinate Family Mass and seasonal/Liturgical student participation.

· Work with the Christian Formation Commission Chair to research, identify and recommend new Religious Education and Faith Formation programs

· Provide support to the Peace and Justice Committee

· Provide leadership and offer parishioners the opportunity to participate in various stages of the Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA)

 

Staff Responsibilities

· Meet regularly with parish staff for planning and coordination of parish programs.

· Work with Youth Minister to coordinate Religious Education/Youth ministry activities.

Job Requirements

  BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and/or a certificate in Ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning plus a minimum of three years’ work experience

· Strong digital literacy skills to effectively communicate and utilize technology for the Faith Formation of all parishioners

· Willingness to attend Diocesan training in Catholic Social Teachings and Catholic Charities programs.

· Demonstrate capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship skills.

· Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current on trends in

catechetical ministry.

· Proven participation and continuing updating of the Virtus Safe Environment Program

sponsored through the diocese.

· This position entails frequent evening and weekend work.

· Exceptional relationship building skills, with both youth and adults, that ignite and fuels spiritual growth
