Job Summary
Our parish seeks to bring the fullness of the Gospel to its members and community, collaborating with the Holy Spirit, to foster faith in Jesus Christ. To that end, the Director of Evangelization and Discipleship is responsible for working with the pastor to oversee the Parish School of Religion (PSR) program to provide meaningful religious education for children within the parish, and to help articulate a vision for evangelization within the parish. The Director will develop and implement a curriculum in the PSR program that aligns with Catholic teaching, and will recruit and train volunteer catechists to help implement that curriculum. Additionally, the Coordinator will serve as the chief liaison with our parish’s relationship ministry partner, Communio, for resources and services for evangelization.
Job Responsibilities
Parish School of Religion
- Establish and maintain relationships and consistent communication with parish personnel, catechists, and families in the Parish School of Religion (PSR), ensuring they are well-informed of program updates and information.
- Coordinate the development of religious education guidelines and handbooks.
- Evaluate and requisition resources (textbooks, classroom materials, worship aids) that support curriculum goals and enhance the religious education efforts of the parish.
- Organize and plan prayer opportunities, sacramental events, and other faith-building activities for PSR children and their families.
- Prepare and manage the schedule of in-person classes and activities for the Parish School of Religion’s educational program.
- Recruit and orient volunteer catechists, ensuring they are properly prepared for their roles.
- Maintain accurate data and records for permanent PSR records.
- Oversee the yearly registration process for the Parish School of Religion.
Evangelization and Discipleship
- Collaborate with the Communio Church Strategist to implement the program at St. Gerard Majella Parish.
- Organize and execute regular internal mobile surveys of attendees at Sunday Masses to gauge engagement.
- Develop and lead a support team to organize and implement Communio events, ensuring sustainability of the ministry.
- Lead the support team in mobilizing volunteers to execute outreach events (2-3 times per year), ongoing engagements (6-8 times per year), and growth journeys (2-3 tracks per year).
- Organize and host regular support team meetings to analyze, plan, and review ministries and events, ensuring alignment with parish goals.
- Track and analyze data to monitor the effectiveness of the support team and recalibrate strategies when necessary.
- Manage the internal promotion of ministry activities by collaborating with parish staff to advertise through various channels, including the parish bulletin, newsletter, social media, Mass announcements, and signage.
- Host or co-host evangelization and training events with parishioners or parish staff to deepen the understanding and participation in evangelization and discipleship efforts.
- Assist the SGM Adult Faith Formation Team in sourcing speakers and topics related to evangelization and discipleship as needed.
Job Requirements
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a strong understanding of Catholic theology and traditions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of three years of experience in religious education, catechesis, or a related ministry.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with parish staff, volunteers, and families.
- Proficiency in using digital tools and resources for communication and program management.
- Ability to lead and motivate others and delegate effectively
- Commitment to fostering a safe and nurturing environment for children and youth.
- Desire to share the faith with parishioners of all ages, especially the youth
