Job Summary

The Director is responsible for setting the direction and strategy of the Evangelization and Discipleship ministry in the Archdiocese of St. Louis in keeping with the agency Mission and according to the policies of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. This role is responsible for the annual budget and provides management to office staff and acts as a consultor to Archdiocesan leadership as appropriate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements the Evangelization strategy for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Cascades strategy and vision throughout Curia ministries and Clergy to impact parishes and parish leaders.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to the leaders of E&D ministries including Stewardship Education & Leadership Development, and the Men’s and Women’s Conferences, Marriage & Family, Young Adult Ministry, and Newman Centers. Oversees the budget approval and administration of the budgets for these ministries. Works collaboratively with the team to identify and implement the most effective methods to foster increased engagement in parishes. Oversees annual events and planning to promote evangelization.
  • Director will create processes and programs that develop disciples to become disciple-making leaders in the Archdiocese and promote an understanding of evangelization and discipleship throughout diocesan parishes, schools, communities and the Curia.
  • Through individual coaching, consultation, and ongoing relationships, supports pastors, parish staff, leaders, volunteers and the Curia in creating and implementing a discipleship centered vision for a missionary conversion of parish ministry.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Strategic Communications and Planning to create content for seasonal evangelization campaigns and to maintain evangelization-oriented language in all public communications. Collaborates with other curia offices on evangelization initiatives to ensure alignment and determine what synergies may exist for promoting the mission of the Church.
  • Oversees the tools and methods that enables the Archdiocese to evangelize, outreach, form and engage the lay faithful in the life and mission of the Church.
  • Maintains relationships with outside apostolates that further the evangelizing mission of the Archdiocese.
  • Works collaboratively with team members, clergy, parishes, vicariate staff and other identified groups to facilitate growth in their relationship with Jesus and engage as lifelong missionary disciples in Catholic parishes.
  • Stays current in best ministry practices and emerging movements and talents across the country in evangelization oriented ministries, in order to continue a competitive and fruitful mission.

Job Requirements

  •  Must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Catholic Church, its structures, and how it functions; familiarity with its institutions.
  •  Prior experience of 5-7 years in a (arch)diocese or parish in a leadership role.
  •  Master’s degree, preferably in Theology or Ministry. Or MBA with some theological education / experience background.
  •  Strong familiarity with applicable Church documents concerning evangelization
  •  Prior leadership experience in ministry, budget & staff management and strategic planning.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other tools.
