This is an on-site Cook position located in Shrewsbury, MO. Our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming space for our retired priests to live in community with one another. 

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals, following recipes, and keeping the kitchen clean and well-organized. They will ensure that food is delivered on time and is of high quality.  They will maintain a safe and sanitary work environment at all times and will follow food health and safety procedures.  They will complete all daily job responsibilities and assist other team members when needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner following the daily menu.
  • Prepare desserts for lunch and dinner.
  • Ensure all dishes are completed and set up on the steam table five minutes prior to service. 
  • Follow recipe cards.
  • Conduct daily cleaning and sign off on the daily cleaning task, once completed.
  • Minimize food waste, by reutilizing ingredients in additional dishes.
  • All food must be garnished.
  • Sweep & mop dish room floor. 
  • Take out trash to dumpster as needed. 

Cleaning Schedules: Ensure all cleaning schedules are completed and signed off on. Follow up with the individual responsible if the chore has not been completed. 
Dry Storeroom/Freezer/Walk-in Cooler: Ensure all shelves are organized and food is properly rotated and labeled. 
Weekly Inventory: Conduct weekly inventory every Friday and turn into the Executive Chef once completed. 
Ordering/Food Procurement: Responsible for placing all US Foods, GFS, and PFG orders as needed while the Executive Chef is on vacation. 
Grocery Shopping: Conduct grocery shopping if needed, at the request of the Executive Chef.

Job Requirements

Schedule: This position is for a full time cook who will work a rotating schedule.  The schedule will vary based on your availability and our staffing needs. Shifts are 10 hours: 6:30 am–12:30 pm and 2 pm–6:00 pm. Meals are served 3 times a day, 7 days per week.

Compensation: Hourly at $18.18 per hour. Uniforms and meals are included.
Full time and half time new hires are eligible for generous benefits packages on first day of hire, including health, dental & vision insurances, paid time off and 403B retirement.

Minimum Age Requirement: 21 years’ old

Vaccination Requirement: Must have or be willing to obtain at employer's cost a full series Hepatitis A vaccination as required by the St. Louis County Health Department

Skills and Attitudes Needed for Success:

  • Food Handler Certification a plus
  • Prior cooking experience, preferably in a commercial setting
  • Knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Ability to follow recipes and work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Availability to work weekends
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to be gentle and compassionate in communicating with retired priests
  • Provide excellent customer service, especially during mealtimes
  • Work well with executive chef, kitchen team, administrator, and other team members at Regina Cleri Community
