Job Summary

To prepare for and service funerals; perform general maintenance at all locations of Catholic Cemeteries; a multifaceted position; grounds employees are members of SIUE Local 1

Job Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of all sections and equipment
  • Opening and closing of graves and crypts
  • Tent set up and take down
  • Service graveside funerals
  • Placement of casket in crypt, grave or outer container and back filling grave
  • Install memorial foundations, set or reset memorial work
  • Disinterment work
  • General maintenance and Endowed Care work, not limited to lawnmowing, weed trimming, shrub trimming and tree care
  • Training provided
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Light duty work is not available

 

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or actively working towards obtaining CDL
  • Equipment Operation:
    • Tractor trailer
    • Backhoe (grave digging machine)
    • Hi-Lift tractor
    • Truck boom crane
    • Basket lift machine
    • 12’, 6’, and smaller motorized lawn mowers
    • Motorized push mower
    • Riding, backpack, and hand-pushed leaf blowers
    • Hedge, tree trimming, and string trimming equipment
    • Chain saws and snow blowers
    • Other power equipment
  • Hand Skills:
    • Shovel and broom usage
    • Hoes, rakes, and felling trees
    • Cleaning branches
    • Painting and board laying
    • Road sealing and curb maintenance
    • Concrete and masonry work
    • Minor mechanical repairs
