As a member of the Federation of Catholic Charities, we serve the metropolitan and surrounding St. Louis area through four core programs: prevention, education, treatment, and housing. 

Job Summary

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for assisting clients in locating and securing housing that meets HQS standards. Collaborate closely with Shelter Plus Care team, treatment teams and landlords to ensure a successful housing placement for assigned clients.

Job Responsibilities

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Assist clients in identifying safe, affordable housing that meets HQS standards and complete required paperwork necessary to secure housing.
  • Help expedite the move-in/moving process by conducting preliminary assessments of units to assure they will likely pass an HQS inspection.
  • Provide and/or secure transportation to and from unit viewing appointments.
  • Coach, teach and encourage participants how to navigate various websites and other community resources on which communities may be listed.
  • Coach, teach and encourage participants how to communicate with potential landlords. For example, coach a participant on how to call and request a viewing appointment, role-play talking to a landlord and asking questions about a unit, etc.
  • Coach, teach and assist participants in eliminating barriers to finding housing. (Make referrals to community resources to eliminate outstanding utilities, lack of transportation, etc.)
  • Maintain a contemporary list of landlords which would fit participant’s needs.
  • Build relationships with existing landlords and seek out new landlord relationships. Contact landlords, who Shelter Plus Care has worked with, to inquire about available units.
  • Training for and ability to complete HQS assessments is required.
  • Weekly billable requirements as stipulated by Queen of Peace Center is required.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Experience, and Training

  • Missouri Peer Specialist Certificate at time of hire or within 6 months of hire + 1 year of lived experience + 2 years of recovery; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or closely related field; OR
  • Four years relevant experience in human service delivery field.
  • Valid Class E (or other acceptable) driver’s license, vehicle, and current (and ongoing) automobile liability insurance.

Pre-Employment Screening
