Working collaboratively with individuals, businesses, government and other service providers, St. Patrick Center will end chronic homelessness in the St. Louis region through Housing First, an evidence-based practice that tells us to remove barriers, do intake and assessment early, move people into housing and offer them support to achieve their goals. 

Job Summary

St. Patrick Center, a ministry of Catholic Charities, is hiring a Kitchen Assistant. The Kitchen Assistant will aid  the Shamrock Club Kitchen Supervisor in the daily operation of the Shamrock Club kitchen. The position works a minimum of 20 hours per week and the typical work schedule is 9:30am to 1:30pm, Monday through Friday with an hourly range of $13 to $18.

Job Responsibilities

  • Cover 7.5-hour day shift for Shamrock Club Kitchen Supervisor when supervisor is not present.
  • Cover 6.5-hour day shift weekends and holidays when Weekend Cook is not present.
  • Assist the Shamrock Club Kitchen Supervisor in the daily operation of the Shamrock Club kitchen.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve breakfast and lunch in the Shamrock Club program.
  • Clean kitchen area and dining area as needed, following ServSafe procedures.
  • Work with dock crew to transport donations from dock area and properly store items in the building.
  • Restock Shamrock pantry area as needed.
  • Rotate stock in pantry area, freezers and refrigerators as needed.
  • Clean trash cart with hose when needed.
  • Maintain current ServSafe certification.
  • Report to Shamrock Weekend Cook if scheduled to work during the same shift.
  • Monitor volunteer help in food preparation.
  • Accept all St. Patrick Center donations of food for Shamrock, Night Program and Mobile Outreach
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator of the Casserole Program
  • Coordinate all special food needs for parties and holidays.
  • Keep current with all rules and regulations for City and State inspections.
  • Respect and be responsible for agency policy regarding work hours, building security and all personnel standards.
  • Ensure the care model by interacting with other St. Patrick Center programs.
  • Respect client confidentiality.
  • Work directly with other kitchen workers (agency client-staff only and only if Shamrock Club Kitchen Supervisor is absent that day).
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Understanding of Mental Illness and Drug/Alcohol Dependence
  • ServSafe certification required (may be obtained after employment, within 60 days)

Pre-Employment Screening
