Job Summary

Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information to prepare and/or review financial analyses or reports. Manages and supports several accounting professionals and paraprofessionals and supports the overall finance function of the Archdiocese. Support for the finance function of the Archdiocese includes, but is not limited to, the monthly financial close, additional work needed for the quarter and year-end financial closes and the annual audit.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review and approve selected journal entries from accountants and clerical staff under direct supervision.
  • Monitors tasks to be completed by his/her assigned area of responsibility and follows up with each person responsible to ensure tasks are completed timely and accurately. This includes not only tasks specific to assigned agencies, offices and schools, but also all function wide data gathering needs for consolidated information for all agencies, offices and schools such as for various quarterly needs and the annual audit. This responsibility will make necessary ongoing one on one interaction with direct reports and management.
  • Depending on the meeting topic(s) and attendees, actively participate in and/or lead portions or all of various department meetings.
  • Establish positive relationships with and communicate with team members at agencies, offices and schools as necessary.
  • Creates or reviews end of month reports as requested by agency directors and/or their supervisor.
  • Review and recommend changes to agency budgets or projections.
  • Conduct annual staff reviews.
  • Reviews and approves end of month account reconciliations.
  • Reviews reports prepared by professional accounting staff.
  • Monitors general ledger coding of invoices to ensure integrity and consistency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Possess a positive / approachable attitude, be service-oriented and be able to motivate a team.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from agency representatives and accounting staff.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Computer literacy, accuracy, attention to detail, organized, assertive yet courteous, flexible, communicates well.
  • Able to travel within the Archdiocese to attend meetings at Archdiocese agencies, offices or schools.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Experience with Infor/Lawson accounting software is considered a strong plus.
  • Well organized, extremely efficient and pro-active. Ability to meet deadlines ahead of schedule. Ability to take on special projects without sacrificing the quality of the normal workload. Anticipate the needs of directors or managers by providing financial reports or spreadsheets. Needs minimal supervision.

Relationships Requirements

  • Attends periodic financial statement review meetings with agency management.
  • Formal and informal communications with direct reports, the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Assistant Controller, team members at agencies, offices or schools, others that work in the finance function or within the Curia.
