Job Summary

The Music Teacher at a Catholic school is responsible for developing and leading a vibrant music program that supports the school’s academic goals and faith-based mission. This teacher inspires students to explore music through singing, instruments, rhythm, theory, and performance, while integrating Catholic traditions and liturgical music.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver music instruction to students in various grade levels (PK–8, depending on school)

  • Teach music theory, vocal and instrumental performance, rhythm, and appreciation

  • Prepare students for school concerts, performances, and liturgical celebrations

  • Direct music for school Masses, prayer services, and other religious events

  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages creativity, participation, and respect

  • Incorporate Catholic hymns, seasonal liturgical music, and traditional sacred works

  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback

  • Collaborate with teachers and administration to support school-wide events and curriculum

  • Maintain music supplies, instruments, and equipment

  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field

  • Teaching certification (if applicable or required by the diocese)

  • Practicing Catholic who supports the mission and values of Catholic education

  • Experience teaching music to children in a school or church setting

  • Proficiency in vocal and/or instrumental instruction

  • Ability to lead student choirs or ensembles

  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
