Job Summary

The Church Musician at Or Lady of Providence Catholic Church plays an essential role in enhancing the liturgical and spiritual life of the parish through music. This individual provides musical accompaniment for liturgical celebrations, leads congregational singing, and collaborates with the pastor and liturgy team to ensure that music supports the Church's teachings and liturgical norms. The musician should be a person of faith, with a heart for ministry and a deep understanding of Catholic liturgy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide instrumental and/or vocal music for weekend Masses, holy days, funerals, weddings, and other liturgical celebrations as scheduled.

  • Select or assist in selecting appropriate liturgical music in coordination with the pastor or liturgy team.

  • Lead and encourage active congregational singing and participation during Mass.

  • Rehearse with cantors, choir members, or other musicians as needed.

  • Prepare music in alignment with the liturgical calendar and Roman Catholic liturgical guidelines.

  • Be present and punctual for all scheduled liturgies, rehearsals, and events.

  • Maintain and care for parish-owned instruments and music resources.

  • Serve as a musical and spiritual leader within the liturgical celebrations.

Job Requirements

  • Proficiency in playing the [organ, piano, or guitar] and/or vocal performance.

  • Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy, sacred music, and liturgical norms.

  • Ability to read music and lead others in musical worship.

  • Experience in accompanying choirs, soloists, and congregational singing.

  • Practicing Catholic preferred, with a clear understanding and respect for Catholic doctrine and liturgical traditions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to work collaboratively with clergy, liturgy team, and parishioners.

  • Ability to adapt to different musical styles (e.g., traditional hymns, chant, contemporary liturgical music).
