Job Summary
The Parish Organist plays a vital role in supporting the liturgical life of the parish by providing organ music for Masses, sacramental celebrations, funerals, weddings, and other liturgical events. The Organist collaborates with the Pastor, Music Director (if applicable), cantors, and choir to ensure music enhances worship in accordance with the Roman Catholic tradition and liturgical guidelines.
Job Responsibilities
· Provide organ music for all regular weekend liturgies (Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses).
· Accompany choir(s), cantors, and congregational singing at liturgies.
· Play for Holy Days of Obligation, liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter), and special parish celebrations.
· Provide organ music for weddings and funerals as needed (additional stipends may apply).
· Rehearse weekly with choir(s) and attend liturgical planning meetings as required.
· Collaborate with the Pastor and/or Music Director in selecting appropriate music that reflects the liturgical calendar and readings.
· Maintain the parish organ and report any maintenance needs.
· Serve as a resource for developing the musical and liturgical life of the parish.
· Maintain a professional level of musical proficiency and stay current on Church music developments.

Job Requirements
· Proficiency in organ performance, especially in liturgical settings (knowledge of Catholic liturgy required).
· Ability to accompany choirs and cantors in a variety of musical styles (chant, traditional hymnody, contemporary sacred music).
· Familiarity with Catholic liturgical documents (e.g., General Instruction of the Roman Missal, Musicam Sacram).
· Degree in music or equivalent experience preferred.
· Strong sight-reading skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
· Respect for the teachings and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.
