Job Summary

The school nurse is responsible for providing health related care to students, faculty and staff of Assumption Catholic School (K-8) and Assumption Early Learning Center (infants – Pre-K). The nurse assesses and treats minor injuries, administers first aid, monitors the health of students, and provides health education.

Job Responsibilities

●    Administers basic health care and First Aid for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill/ injured students, faculty and staff. 
●    Communicate efficiently and effectively with parents regarding student health care or health issues.  Provide health information to students, families and staff as needed
●    Accurately prepare timely reports of injuries that occur on campus involving students, staff or school visitors. 
●    Assists with the administration of routine, PRN & emergency medications as needed
●    Maintain/record a history of students seen in health room
●    Provide health assessments by obtaining health history, perform screenings, observation of child development, identify abnormal health findings
●    Maintain an efficient, organized, and clean health room and assume responsibility for the maintenance of the health room, supplies, equipment
●    Develop and implement student health plans, provide ongoing health counseling, initiating referrals and health status and utilizing existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
●    Follow appropriate policies and procedures for the care of ill and injured students-assess the student’s needs/notify parents promptly
●    Provide consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school
●    Maintain and update cumulative health records for students and file appropriate reports to state each fall 
●    Ensure student immunizations are current
●    Reviews physical exam forms and emergency forms to formulate confidential list to staff annually 
●    Watch for changes in students’ medication, health needs, PE restrictions, etc. and let appropriate staff know in a timely manner
●    Coordinate hearing/vision screenings 
●    Be the team leader of the blood borne pathogens clean up team
●    Contact families regarding excessive absences
 

Job Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Requirements
●    Registered Nurse (licensed in Missouri)
●    CPR Certified
●    General knowledge and support of the Catholic Church
●    Ability to effectively utilize school information systems & Google Applications (preferred)
●    Complete Archdiocese Safe Environment Program (Prevent and Protect STL)


Skills & Attitudes Required for Success in Job
●    Strong written and oral communication skills 
●    Ability to take direction from administration 


Relationships Requirements
●    Ability to work with pastor, parish office staff and school personnel, students, parents and volunteers
