Job Summary
The PSR Catechist plays a vital role in forming young disciples through the parish’s Parish School of Religion (PSR) program. This ministry involves leading engaging weekly faith formation classes, guiding students in their preparation for the sacraments, and fostering a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. Working in partnership with parents and parish staff, the Catechist helps nurture each child’s understanding, love, and active practice of the Catholic faith, contributing to the parish’s mission of lifelong evangelization and spiritual growth.
Job Responsibilities

Teach assigned PSR class (typically weekly sessions, grades 1–8) using the approved religious education curriculum.

Integrate Scripture, prayer, Catholic doctrine, and Church tradition into each lesson.

Prepare students for sacraments (e.g., First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) as applicable.

Maintain a safe, respectful, and faith-filled classroom environment.

Collaborate with the Coordinator of Religious Education and other catechists.

Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and parish faith formation events.

Attend catechist training sessions, meetings, and retreats as required.

Set an example of active faith and Catholic values in word and action.
Job Requirements

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

Desire and commitment to share the Catholic faith with children.

Knowledge of Catholic teachings and sacraments; willingness to learn and grow in the role.

Previous teaching or ministry experience is helpful but not required.

Patience, enthusiasm, and ability to relate well to children and parents.

Completion of parish/diocesan safe environment training and background check (required).
