Job Summary

The Elementary Music Teacher will provide foundational music skills and appreciation to students, first through eighth grade, in a self-contained special education setting. This role involves using music to help students express themselves through engaging, age-appropriate lessons that align with the school curriculum. The music teacher will assist in preparing students for the annual Advent performance. The music teacher will cultivate a positive and creative classroom environment, evaluate student progress, and foster a love of music in children with varying skill levels. 

Job Responsibilities

· Music classes: Provide individual and group music classes for students with special needs, focusing on fostering emotional expression, communication, and coping skills through creative processes.

· Collaboration with School Team: Work closely with teachers, special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support students with special learning needs.

· Develop and Implement Programs: Design and implement creative music performances that support the academic and social growth of students.

· Student Monitoring and Reporting: Track students’ progress, keeping detailed records and providing periodic reports for meetings and reviews with parents and ILP teams.

· Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and stay current on best practices in music and special education.

Job Requirements

Teaching certificate in Music education from an accredited program.

Experience working with elementary students in music education.

Strong understanding of music education and support in working with diverse populations.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
