Job Summary

Job Title: Sacristan
Location: Basilica of St. Louis (Old Cathedral)

 

Position Summary
The Sacristan plays a vital role in supporting the liturgical life of the Basilica of St. Louis. This position is responsible for preparing the worship space for Mass and other liturgical celebrations, ensuring that all sacred vessels, vestments, and materials are properly arranged and cared for. The Sacristan works closely with the priests and the lead sacristan, offering dependable assistance before, during, and after liturgical services.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the sanctuary and sacristy for daily and weekend Masses, weddings, funerals, and other liturgical events.
  • Set out vestments, vessels, books, and other items required for the celebration of the liturgy.
  • Assist the priests and lead sacristan with any needs related to liturgical preparation or cleanup.
  • Maintain reverence and professionalism while working in sacred spaces.
  • Ensure all liturgical items are cleaned, stored, and handled with proper care.
  • Monitor inventory of liturgical supplies and communicate needs as appropriate.
  • Support the smooth flow of liturgical celebrations by being attentive, organized, and responsive.

 

Qualifications

  • Previous sacristan experience is preferred, though individuals with strong liturgical familiarity will also be considered.
  • A genuine willingness to be of service to clergy, staff, parishioners, and visitors.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with clergy, volunteers, and other team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow spoken and written instructions accurately.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and respect for the sacred nature of the work.
