Job Summary
Oversees kitchen operations, supervising staff, and assisting the Food Service Manager with menu planning, inventory, and food preparation. This position is the "second-in-command," responsible for ensuring quality and consistency, and is expected to take charge of the kitchen in the Food Service Manager’s absence. Key skills include leadership, communication, attention to detail, and time management.
Job Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen employees, and assist with hiring.
2. Ensure all food is prepared according to standards for taste, quality, and portion size.
3. Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and managing the kitchen's daily operations.
4. Help with inventory counts, food cost tracking, ordering supplies, and managing invoices.
5. Enforce health and safety standards and train staff on proper protocols.
6. Step in to manage the kitchen entirely during the Food Service Manager's absence.
Knowledge, Experience and Ability Requirements:
1. High school diploma or its equivalent with 2 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area.
2. Ability to understand English language sufficiently to be able to read information contained in instructions, recipes, and informational brochures.
3. Ability and willingness to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately, with minimal direct supervision.
4. Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team.
5. Strong, versatile cooking skills and knowledge of various cuisines and presentation styles.
6. Ability to communicate and interact with staff and management.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
8. Meticulous in food preparation and presentation to ensure consistency and quality.
9. Resilient and adaptable under pressure to handle unexpected issues.

1. Must be willing to change tasks as needs arise throughout the day to meet food service needs.
2. Positive in all interactions with staff and visitors to the facility is essential.
3. Must be responsive to the Food Service Manager and other staff.
4. Must keep Food Service Manager apprised of any situations that could result in disruption to operations at the Kenrick Glennon Seminary.
Resources for which Accountable:
1. Along with Food Service Manager accountable to ensure responsible management, spending, and oversight of Food Service annual budget.
2. Oversight of outside suppliers.
