Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher supports the mission of the Catholic school by providing instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute maintains a positive and respectful learning environment, adheres to lesson plans, and upholds the Catholic identity and values of the school.

Job Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and classroom procedures provided by the regular teacher.

  • Create a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment rooted in Catholic values.

  • Supervise students during class, transitions, lunch, and recess as needed.

  • Manage classroom behavior and enforce school rules consistently and fairly.

  • Leave a summary of the day’s activities for the returning teacher.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, and administrators.

  • Integrate Catholic teachings and values where appropriate in classroom interactions.

  • Maintain confidentiality and act with discretion at all times.

Job Requirements

  • Teaching certification (state or diocesan) preferred but not always required.

  • Practicing Catholic or respectful of the Catholic faith and willing to support its mission.

  • Classroom experience or experience working with children/adolescents is preferred.

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.

  • Completion of diocesan requirements: background check, Safe Environment training, and any additional local compliance standards.

Pre-Employment Screening
