Job Summary

The Camp Counselor is responsible for supporting the Camp Assumption Director in the daily operations of the summer camp. Counselors will work directly with campers to provide a safe, fun, and enriching experience. They will help facilitate camp activities, ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers, and serve as positive role models throughout the camp session.

Job Responsibilities

  • Program Support: Implement a variety of age-appropriate activities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving to ensure a fun and educational summer camp experience for all children.
  • Supervise Campers: Actively engage with children ensuring their safety, well-being, and enjoyment throughout the camp day. Supervise children to provide a supportive environment for appropriate individual and group discipline.
  • Positive Interactions: Interact with children in a warm, calm, and unhurried manner to support their emotional and developmental needs.
  • Safety & Cleanliness: Maintain a safe, clean, and pleasant environment, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring that the children’s physical, emotions, and social well-being is always prioritized.
  • Confidentiality & Parent Communication: Uphold confidentiality in all interactions and with children and parents. Update parents as needed, addressing any questions or concerns regarding any camper behavior concerns and collaborating with them to ensure a successful camp experience.
  • Support Camp Director & Team: Collaborate with the Camp Director and fellow counselors to ensure the success of camp operations. Attend staff meetings and contribute to the planning and execution of camp events.
  • Parental & Community Engagement: Interact with parents and community groups, maintaining open and cooperative communication with families to encourage their involvement in the program and support the child’s family relationships.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure that the general health, nutrition, and safety of the children are maintained by keeping certifications up-to-date (CPR, First Aid) and following health guidelines.
  • Christian Witness: Consistently use words and actions that clearly give witness to Gospel values and demonstrate living out the teachings of Jesus Christ. Give witness to Catholic values and adhere to the teachings of the Catholic Church through practices in life and work.  Provide daily interactions and classroom practices to develop a faith-filled environment that nurtures the spiritual growth of children.
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned by the Early Learning Center Director.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or volunteer setting. 

  • General knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, rites, and liturgies.

  • Ability to use school information systems effectively.

  • Obtain and maintain current adult, child, and infant CPR and First Aid Certification.

  • Good health, as confirmed by a physician’s statement, with current immunizations.

  • Completion of the Archdiocese Safe Environment Program.

  • Ability to engage and work collaboratively with the pastor, parish office staff, school personnel, students, parents, and volunteers.
