Job Summary

The Teacher Aide and Aftercare Aide supports the Catholic school’s mission by assisting teachers during the academic day and supervising students in the after-school program. This individual contributes to a positive, faith-based, and structured environment throughout the school day and into aftercare hours. The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, nurturing, and enjoys working with children in both instructional and recreational settings.

Job Responsibilities

During School Hours (Teacher Aide):

  • Assist classroom teachers with instructional preparation, classroom organization, and activity setup.

  • Provide academic and behavioral support to individual students or small groups as directed by the teacher.

  • Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and during arrival/dismissal.

  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.

  • Promote respectful and responsible behavior aligned with Catholic values and school policies.

  • Support the spiritual and emotional development of students through example and encouragement.

  • Attend school Masses, assemblies, and other school events as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality and communicate professionally with all school stakeholders.

After School Hours (Aftercare Aide):

  • Supervise and engage students in a structured, safe, and caring after-school setting.

  • Organize and lead age-appropriate activities such as games, crafts, and quiet time.

  • Monitor attendance, ensure safety protocols are followed, and report any concerns.

  • Assist with snack distribution, clean-up, and transitions between activities.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and fellow staff.

  • Maintain a calm and respectful atmosphere consistent with Catholic values.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, child development, or related field preferred.

  • Previous experience working with children in a school, daycare, camp, or similar setting preferred.

  • Practicing Catholic preferred; non-Catholics must be respectful and supportive of the Catholic mission.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to follow directions, adapt to changing needs, and manage student behavior effectively.

  • Patience, flexibility, and a nurturing, team-oriented attitude.
