Job Summary

The Wedding Sacristan is a key member of the liturgical team responsible for preparing and supporting all aspects of wedding ceremonies held at the church or designated venue. This role involves coordinating the physical and ceremonial elements before, during, and after each wedding, ensuring that all liturgical requirements are met with reverence and professionalism. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable about Catholic wedding rites and traditions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare the worship space for each wedding by setting up the altar, sacred vessels, linens, candles, and other necessary liturgical items.

  • Collaborate with clergy, wedding coordinators, musicians, and church staff to ensure all logistical and liturgical elements are in place and on schedule.

  • Welcome and orient the wedding party upon arrival, providing guidance on liturgical protocol and answering last-minute questions.

  • Assist during the wedding liturgy, ensuring a smooth flow of the ceremony and reverent handling of sacred elements.

  • Monitor the environment throughout the ceremony to ensure decorum, address any unexpected needs, and maintain the sacred atmosphere.

  • Tidy and reset the worship space following the ceremony, including cleaning and storing all liturgical items appropriately.

  • Communicate any concerns, incidents, or maintenance needs to the appropriate church personnel after the event.

Job Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic wedding liturgies and church protocols.

  • Prior experience in church ministry or liturgical service preferred.

  • Ability to work weekends and flexible hours based on scheduled weddings.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple responsibilities calmly under pressure.

  • Physically able to lift and move liturgical items, climb steps, and be on feet for extended periods.

  • Professional and respectful demeanor appropriate for sacred spaces and formal ceremonies.
