Job Summary

The Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for guiding young student-athletes in the development of fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, and strong character. This role emphasizes creating a positive, respectful environment where students grow athletically, socially, and personally. The coach plans and conducts practices, teaches proper techniques, promotes sportsmanship, and ensures the well-being and supervision of all participants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reinforce principles such as respect, integrity, responsibility, and good sportsmanship.

  • Serve as a positive role model who encourages teamwork, self-discipline, and personal growth.

  • Promote an environment that supports the development of well-rounded young athletes.

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate practices focusing on fundamental skills, game concepts, and healthy competition.

  • Provide clear instruction, guidance, and constructive feedback to help each player improve.

  • Ensure all players have opportunities to participate and develop at their own pace.

  • Teach the rules of basketball and help students understand both strategy and fair play.

  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive setting during practices, games, and team activities.

  • Supervise students before, during, and after all scheduled team events.

  • Follow organizational procedures for injuries, emergencies, and student conduct.

  • Ensure equipment and facilities are used appropriately and maintained in good condition.

  • Collaborate with program leadership on scheduling, expectations, and league requirements.

  • Communicate effectively with families regarding schedules, expectations, and updates.

  • Attend required meetings, practices, games, and training sessions.

  • Uphold all organizational guidelines, league rules, and behavioral standards.

  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive team environment that supports athletes of all skill levels.

  • Represent the program positively in all interactions and events.

Job Requirements

  • Experience coaching or working with children or youth athletes preferred.

  • Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and player development.

  • Ability to guide and motivate young athletes with patience, positivity, and professionalism.

  • Completion of required youth-safety or volunteer compliance training (or willingness to obtain).

  • Background check clearance as required by the organization.

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Commitment to fostering a positive environment built on respect and strong values.

  • Ability to collaborate with program leadership and families.

  • Availability for practices, games, and occasional evening or weekend activities.
