Job Summary

The Coordinator of Parish Engagement and Discipleship serves the mission of our two parishes by actively engaging parishioners in the missionary life of the parishes.  The role is responsible for creating opportunities for parishioners to grow in their faith through faith formation initiatives, prayer experiences, and service to their neighbor, thereby making disciples of our parishioners who then further make disciples for the Lord.


Fulfillment of the role’s mission will be carried out in collaboration with parish staffs and under the direction of the Pastor. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Build & maintain relationships with parishioners, ministry leaders, and volunteers to understand community strengths and needs regarding participation in parish life and existing thresholds of discipleship.
  • Create a long-term strategic plan designed to enhance participation and growth in discipleship, including guiding small faith sharing groups, retreats, service opportunities and parish events. 
  • Lead an Evangelization team in developing outreach programs to inactive Catholics and non-Catholics in the area.
  • Work with St. Vincent de Paul Society to be present to the physical and social needs in the community
  • Collaborate with Clergy in leading the OCIA program, including teaching, Sacramental paperwork, and ensuring that all candidates/catechumen are ready for the Sacraments.
  • Develop a strategy to meet the social and faith needs of families; recruit volunteers to assist.
  • Direct programs for newcomers to the parish; work with staff and volunteers to engage new parishioners in parish life.
  • Represent the parish at community events and Archdiocesan meetings/conferences pertaining to adult faith formation, discipleship, evangelization-types of initiatives, including monthly attendance at Southern Vicariate E-Team Squared meetings.
  • Work to establish a middle-school youth ministry program by building relationships with youth in the parishes. Be present in the school and PSR programs and get to know the teens and their families so that you can serve as an emergency resources for them, as needed.
  • Plan and lead teen/Confirmation retreats as directed by Pastor.
  • Collaborate with Vincentian Marian Youth.
  • Develop and prudently manage an annual budget. 
  • Provide oversight and coordination for volunteers across all organizations. Monitor success and adjust as appropriate.
  • Be a present and active member of the St. Agnes and St. Joseph parish communities, regularly attending Mass, social and faith-based events, and outreach efforts to those in need.
  • Perform any other pertinent duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology or a related field
  • Relevant experience may substitute for formal education

Experience:

  • Prior relevant ministry experience within a parish or similar Catholic environment. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Comfortable in witnessing one’s faith
  • Strong interpersonal skills – engaging, authentic, curiosity about others
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Strategic thinking capability
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and public speaking with a wide variety of audiences.

  • Living in full sacramental communion with the Catholic Church
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of Catholic teachings and traditions
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality as appropriate
