High School - Guidance Counselor - Valle Catholic High School - 2025-2026
Job Responsibilities
- Assists students with making course selections and requirements to meet students post high school college and career goals.
- Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff to meet the needs of individual students, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.
- Assists with the registration and orientation of students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational programming.
- Serves as a resource to students to provide counseling services that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity including referrals to outside resources.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the counseling and educational field by attending seminars, workshops, professional development, professional meetings and/or by conducting research.
- Keeps accurate and complete records.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ensures that student behavior conforms to school/district policies and establishes/maintains standards of student conduct needed to achieve an effective learning environment.
- Organizing and promoting national and state assessment opportunities.
- Participate in the development and implementation of building and district intervention strategies social/emotional and academic needs.
- Selects appropriate learning material/instructional tools consistent with district curriculum.
- Insuring student awareness of requirements for graduation and college admission, as well as MSHSAA/NCAA requirements that may be necessary for athletic/activity participation.

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of student interventions including 504’s, IEP’s, individualized career and academic plans.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
- Ability to provide culturally responsive academic and career counseling to support EL students in navigating graduation requirements, college admissions, and career pathways while considering language proficiency and cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of language acquisition programs, support services, and community resources to help EL students and their families access academic assistance, mental health support, and post-secondary opportunities.
Travel Requirements:
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required
Qualifications:
- Missouri Certification as a Guidance Counselor. Education:
- Master's degree in counseling from an accredited college or university.
