Job Summary

The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the church grounds, landscaping, and outdoor facilities to ensure they are clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing. This role supports the mission of the parish by providing a welcoming and reverent environment for worship and parish activities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain church lawns, gardens, and landscaping: mowing, edging, trimming, planting, weeding, watering, and mulching.

  • Perform seasonal tasks such as raking leaves, snow/ice removal from sidewalks and entrances, and salting when necessary.

  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of outdoor areas, including parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, prayer gardens, and cemetery grounds (if applicable).

  • Set up and take down outdoor equipment for events such as festivals, processions, or parish gatherings.

  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs to outdoor equipment, fences, irrigation systems, and signage.

  • Monitor grounds for safety hazards and report needed repairs or safety concerns to the Facilities Manager or Pastor.

  • Assist with trash and recycling collection from outdoor areas.

  • Ensure all tools and equipment are cleaned and stored properly.

  • Maintain inventory of groundskeeping supplies and notify supervisor when restocking is needed.

  • Assist with special liturgical preparations and outdoor decorations for religious holidays and celebrations as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance required.

  • Knowledge of landscaping tools, lawn equipment, and irrigation systems.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Respectful of the Catholic Church’s mission and ability to maintain discretion and professionalism on church property.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions, and operate groundskeeping machinery safely.
