Job Summary
St Gertrude Catholic Church is seeking a dependable and hardworking Maintenance Assistant to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, parishioners, and visitors. The Maintenance Assistant works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager to assist with custodial duties, basic repairs, groundskeeping, and general upkeep of parish and/or school buildings in support of the mission of Catholic education and worship.
Job Responsibilities

Assist with routine maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry tasks.

Perform custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and restroom cleaning.

Help maintain the grounds, including lawn care, snow removal, and general outdoor upkeep.

Set up and take down furniture or equipment for school/parish events, Masses, or meetings.

Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues to the supervisor promptly.

Restock cleaning and maintenance supplies as needed.

Ensure all work is performed in a manner that reflects respect for the sacred space and Catholic mission of the institution.

Support compliance with safety and security procedures throughout the campus.

Assist other staff members and volunteers as needed for special projects or emergencies.
Job Requirements

General knowledge of maintenance and custodial practices

Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs; perform physical labor and operate cleaning or maintenance equipment

Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Respect for the values, mission, and property of the Catholic Church

Successful completion of background check and Safe Environment requirements (per diocesan policy)
